Stephen Crichton, captain of the Bulldogs, faces a potential ban that could exclude him from State of Origin 1 after an incident during the Bulldogs' 24-20 win over the Roosters.

According to reports from au.news.yahoo.com, Crichton struck Lindsay Collins in the head with his shoulder while Collins was on the ground.

The tackle occurred after Crichton's failed grubber, with Crichton lunging in without attempting to wrap his arms, which indicated his recognition of wrongdoing.

Referee Ashley Klein awarded a penalty for the incident but deemed it not severe enough to warrant a report.

However, the match review committee will examine the play on Saturday.

Crichton's situation is precarious because he has already been charged twice this season; if cited, he could face a suspension.

As teams for State of Origin 1 are scheduled to be named on Monday, a suspension would preclude his participation.

Emma Lawrence commented on Channel 9, stating, "If Stephen Crichton is cited at all, it will mean he misses a week." She noted that while he wasn't on report at that moment, Crichton likely faced a sleepless night.

The situation echoes that of teammate Jacob Preston, who received a four-game ban for a minor crusher tackle due to being charged three times earlier in the season.

A ban for Crichton ahead of the Origin would be significantly detrimental, but ultimately, he can only blame his own ill-discipline.
