Cowboys reeling in another hooker for the team

LeagueNews.co | Cooper McEnroe

The North Queensland Cowboys are actively seeking a replacement for Reece Robson, the current NSW Blues dummy-half, who will join the Sydney Roosters at the end of the year.

Coach Todd Payten has less than 12 months to secure a suitable player for the No.

9 position.

Currently, the Cowboys' spine includes Scott Drinkwater, Tom Dearden, and Jaxon Purdue, but they have yet to find a new hooker.

Previously, the Cowboys have been linked to several potential candidates, including Jayden Brailey, Tyson Smoothy, Tanah Boyd, Billy Walters, Brad O'Neill, Danny Walker, and Reed Mahoney.

However, they have recently missed opportunities to sign Brailey, Boyd, and Smoothy.

A new name has surfaced as a possible replacement: Cory Paix, an off-contract dummy-half for the Brisbane Broncos, who is under consideration for the Cowboys for the 2026 season.

Despite being targeted by North Queensland, Paix's agent has confirmed he has had preliminary contract discussions with Broncos officials.
