North Queensland Cowboys Head Coach Todd Payten has made a late change to the starting side for the Round 6 game against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
The game is set to take place at Optus Stadium, kicking off at 3.30pm local time (5.30pm AEST).
The late change to the Cowboys' lineup sees prop Jordan McLean come into the starting side, with Reuben Cotter moving to the interchange bench.
Payten explained the decision, stating, "Jordan McLean comes into the starting side this week, which means Reuben Cotter shifts to the interchange bench."
The Cowboys have faced a challenging start to the season, with Payten emphasizing the need for improvement.
He noted, "We're showing a lot of resolve and some moments of consistency in the performances, but we need to become a more consistent and disciplined team."
In terms of preparing to face the Rabbitohs, Payten highlighted the importance of containing their big forwards and limiting their offloads.
He stated, "The Rabbitohs have some quality big men up front who are great at offloading, so we need to shut down their time and space as much as we can."
Additionally, Payten acknowledged the threat posed by the Rabbitohs' attacking spine, led by star playmaker Adam Reynolds.
He explained, "Reynolds is a big threat with his late footwork and ability to kick, so the forwards need to have good line speed and the defenders need to be connected and working together."
Despite the challenges presented by the Rabbitohs, Payten expressed confidence in his team's ability to compete.
He said, "We're looking forward to the game and the challenge that comes with facing a quality side like the Rabbitohs."
With the late change to the starting lineup and a focus on improving consistency and discipline, the Cowboys are gearing up for a tough contest against the Rabbitohs.
Payten's strategic approach and confidence in his team's abilities suggest they are ready to put up a strong fight in Round 6.
