Cowboy-Knight ditches league for new code challenge

Former NRL player Laitia Moceidreke, who has worn the jerseys of the Newcastle Knights and North Queensland Cowboys, has made a surprising decision to switch codes.

According to reports from zerotackle.com, Moceidreke has been chosen as one of the 14 individuals to participate in the NFL's 10-week International Player Pathway (IPP) development camp in Florida this season.

Having started his rugby league journey at the Canterbury Bulldogs before donning the Cowboys jersey, Moceidreke made a memorable first-grade appearance where he scored a try in Round 23 of the 2021 season.

Hailing from a family with deep rugby roots, Moceidreke's grandfather was a representative for Fiji in the 1968 Olympics and his father also represented the Fijian national rugby team.

Drawing inspiration from the success story of Jordan Mailata, Moceidreke, a former Matraville Sports High School student, will try his hand as a tight end and defensive end in the NFL, having been introduced to the sport while watching Super Bowl LVI.

With this bold move, Moceidreke aims to make a mark in a new sporting arena, hoping to emulate the success of fellow athletes who have made successful transitions between sports.
