Cory Paterson, a former NRL back-rower who played for three clubs, has secured a new off-field position as the assistant coach for an international rugby league team.

Paterson, who last played in the NRL in 2014, has been appointed as the assistant coach of the USA Men's National Team, following announcements of key changes within the United States Association of Rugby League (USARL) national program.

"I'm excited to reunite with Woolly and help grow rugby league in the US, where the potential is massive," he stated.

Teaming up with former Newcastle Knights player Adam Woolnough, Paterson brings significant experience, having played 96 NRL matches for the Knights from 2007 to 2011, the North Queensland Cowboys from 2011 to 2012, and the Wests Tigers in 2014.

Additionally, Paterson has represented the Indigenous All Stars three times and has had stints in the Super League with teams like Hull KR, Salford Red Devils, Leigh Leopards, and Toronto Wolfpack.

"He is a deep thinker," USA coach Adam Woolnough commented to The Newcastle Herald about Paterson's new role as his assistant coach. "He is reflective, he has matured a lot, and he was a very good footballer."
