After nearly a decade with the Rabbitohs, Damien Cook is gearing up for his final game in the cardinal and myrtle jersey.

The seasoned hooker had always envisioned finishing his illustrious NRL career with South Sydney, but fate had other plans in store.

As Cook prepares to bid farewell to Redfern and embark on a new chapter with the Dragons, he is backing young gun Peter Mamouzelos to step up and shine bright next season.

The charismatic rake acknowledges that rugby league is a rollercoaster ride, full of unexpected twists and turns.

Joining forces with his former club where he made his debut in 2013, Cook is determined to make his mark once again.

The Dragons' signing of the dynamic playmaker took many by surprise earlier this year, but the seasoned pro is ready to take on the challenge and embrace the opportunity with open arms.

"I always thought I'd finish my career here, but footy's a funny game, mate," Cook reflects.

"It's a brutal game at times, but I'm ready for a fresh start.

I'm pumped to reunite with the Dragons and work alongside Shane Flanagan, who has really turned things around for the squad."

With a keen eye on his hometown Illawarra region, where it all began for him, Cook is excited to return to familiar turf and give his all for the Dragons.

The speedster's departure from the Rabbitohs may mark the end of an era, but it's just the beginning of a new chapter filled with untold possibilities and endless opportunities.
