Contract Uncertainty for Perth Bears Players

The Perth Bears are facing significant upheaval with recent contract revelations as they prepare for their debut season in the NRL.

It appears that three of their players may not fulfill their contracts.

Currently, the Bears have secured 16 signings for 2027, leaving 14 roster positions still open.

Key players in their lineup include Nick Meaney from the Melbourne Storm, Siosifa Talakai of the Cronulla Sharks, and former Bulldog Toby Sexton, along with Tyran Wishart from the Melbourne Storm, Liam Henry from the Penrith Panthers, and Josh Curran from the Canterbury Bulldogs.

According to News Corp, the last three signings hold "get out" clauses in their contracts, often referred to as player options.

Wishart has inked the longest agreement with the Bears, a five-year deal extending from 2027 through 2031.

However, the final year of this contract presents uncertainty, as it includes an option that favors Wishart.

The Bears can count on at least four years from this promising talent, who could fill vital roles as either five-eighth or hooker in the team's inaugural season.

The team's exact vision for him is still vague, but it's anticipated that their strongest halves combination will likely involve Wishart and Sexton, who will arrive from the Catalans Dragons.

Additionally, the Bears are believed to be in negotiations for further halfback positions and currently lack a specialized hooker for their first season.
