Selwyn Cobbo is set to be axed from the Broncos' lineup for their clash against the Titans, according to his manager.
Coach Michael Maguire remains optimistic about Cobbo's future.
He was initially named to play on the wing, but Josiah Karapani is expected to take his place due to Cobbo's recent struggles with form and confidence.
Previously, Cobbo shifted to fullback to replace the injured Reece Walsh but has since struggled, prompting the decision to return him to the wing.
Cobbo, who is under contract until the end of 2025, has not received any new contract offers from the Broncos, despite Maguire expressing his interest in retaining him.
Maguire stated, "We have some standards and expectations around what we want to achieve here and that's what we have to live by.
Selwyn is a good young man and I just want him to keep improving." He acknowledged Cobbo's past strong performances, adding, "[Contract talks] will sort itself out as we keep pushing forward."
Cobbo's manager, Tas Bartlett, confirmed that he will play in the Queensland Cup this weekend, emphasizing that this decision won't hinder negotiations with the Broncos.
"Selwyn loves the club and ideally wants to be a Bronco for life like 'Alfie' Langer.
We'll continue talks and he will go back and work on his game," Bartlett stated.
In related news, the Broncos have bolstered their recruitment efforts with the addition of Dane Campbell, the former recruitment chief from North Queensland.
A former NRL player who played six games for the Newcastle Knights, Campbell has prior experience working in recruitment for both the Cowboys and Melbourne Storm.
This move is seen as a significant boost for the Broncos as they aim to strengthen their roster.
