Xavier Coates, the 2023 Melbourne Storm Player of the Year, had an exceptional season on the left-wing.

Despite being only 22 years old, Coates proved that age is not a barrier as he consistently outperformed his opponents.

Throughout the season, he scored an impressive 16 tries, including three hattricks.

Two of these hattricks came against the Sydney Roosters, with Coates scoring three tries in both matches.

Coates' try-scoring abilities did not come as a surprise to Storm fans, who have witnessed his superb finishing and athletic skills.

However, what set him apart this season was his improved running game and defensive prowess.

He showcased his strong running game by making damaging kick returns and helping his team get out of trouble from their own end.

In total, Coates ran for an impressive 2,684 meters and broke 59 tackles throughout the season.

His ability to create linebreaks was also a key factor in his success.

Coates had 11 linebreaks throughout the season, with one standout moment against the Dragons in Round 25.

In that game, he made a clean break through the defensive line and left several defenders grasping at air as he raced 60 meters to score a magnificent solo try.

Coates' outstanding performance throughout the season has quickly established him as one of the best wingers in the competition.

His combination of try-scoring ability, strong running game, and defensive skills make him a force to be reckoned with.

As he continues to develop and gain experience, Coates is sure to be a player to watch in the future.
