The Sydney Roosters NSW Cup team accomplished an astonishing comeback, defeating the Newtown Jets 26-24 at Henson Park, marking a significant moment in Club history.
Entering the match in sixth place, the Roosters faced a challenging first half, falling behind 24-0 against the fourth-placed Jets within thirty-seven minutes.
Just before halftime, bench hooker Tyler Moriaty made an impressive 60-metre break after an offload from Hayden Barton.
This set up halves Toby Rodwell and Reece Foley to assist winger Trey Peni in scoring in the right corner.
Rodwell's conversion attempt struck the post, leaving Newtown ahead 24-4 at the break.
Few could have anticipated the remarkable turn of events that unfolded in the second half.
Only four minutes in, left centre Junior Tupou scored from dummy half, narrowing the gap to 24-8 after another missed conversion from Rodwell.
Shortly thereafter, 19-year-old halfback Rodwell executed a brilliant individual try, slicing through the Jets' defense and converting his own score, bringing the score to 24-14.
The Roosters continued their surge, with another long break from Moriaty leading to Rodwell assisting forward Hayden Barton to score their fourth try, still trailing at 24-18 after yet another conversion that hit the post.
The momentum shifted dramatically when Rodwell's high kick was regathered by Reece Foley, and the Roosters scored again.
Rodwell successfully converted this time, tying the game at 24-24.
Remarkably, the Roosters had scored five tries in just fifteen minutes, including four tries in eight minutes, all without the Jets getting possession.
Following an error by the Roosters after their fifth try, the Jets regained possession in the 56th minute.
Throughout a 20-minute stretch from late in the first half to early in the second, Newtown had the ball for only one set.
The impressive performance of the Roosters was highlighted by key players including Barton, Moriaty, Foley, and the Rodwell brothers, Toby and Tom.
