Parramatta skipper Clint Gutherson has come under fire following a controversial incident involving James Tedesco during a tumultuous NRL clash against the Roosters.
Gutherson, known for his tough on-field persona, slammed the deteriorating conditions at Allianz Stadium, labeling it as one of the worst pitches he's had the displeasure of playing on.
The Eels were defeated 38-14 in a match marred by heavy rain, leading to a farcical display that left spectators and players bewildered.
The torrential downpour wreaked havoc during an earlier encounter between Manly and the Warriors, with Allianz Stadium failing to withstand the weather onslaught unlike the Sea Eagles' fort at 4 Pines Park.
Despite efforts by ground staff to rectify the drainage issues, players struggled to maintain their footing, slipping and sliding across puddles of water throughout the game.
The Roosters, however, managed to adapt to the challenging conditions, with winger Dom Young notching up a hat-trick before being subbed off to nurse a hamstring injury, solidifying their position in third place on the ladder.
Gutherson, never one to shy away from speaking his mind, didn't hold back in his criticism of the playing surface post-match.
"It was one of the worst fields I've played on for a while, especially with the fields these days as they're normally pretty quick and I didn't think it rained that much," lamented the gritty captain.
As controversy swirls around his clash with Tedesco, Gutherson remains undeterred, embodying the resilience and determination that defines the spirit of Rugby League.
