Cleary's absence: Panthers' playoffs hang by a thread

What Cleary’s injury means for the Panthers

Nathan Cleary's injury raises concerns for the Panthers as they prepare to face the Bulldogs next Thursday.

Although the superstar halfback played through a "mystery groin issue" during NSW's surprising loss to Queensland, reports suggest he will be ready for the game.

In the match, Cleary ceded goalkicking duties, which impacted the team's performance as Zac Lomax missed several crucial kicks, contributing to NSW's narrow 26-24 defeat that sets up a decider.

Cleary was seen with a compression bandage on his right leg and only kicked three times in the first half, relying on Jarome Luai and Latrell Mitchell for playmaking contributions.

Luai's initial kick went out on the full, but Cleary later took over, finishing with 11 kicks covering 295 meters and making five runs.

He attempted to breach the line multiple times and had a try disallowed for obstruction.

Given that the Blues are already missing injured player Mitch Moses, it's vital for Cleary to be at full strength for the upcoming match.

NSW coach Laurie Daley expressed confidence in Cleary, stating he wasn't in any doubt for the game.

Meanwhile, the Panthers are optimistic about having Cleary available to lead them against the Bulldogs.
