Newcastle's 22-14 win over Penrith secured the Knights a grand final place, but Phoenix Crossland was sent off and referred directly to the judiciary.
The tackle left Nathan Cleary with a compound fracture and dislocated ankle requiring emergency surgery.
Cleary confirmed on Monday night that Crossland had apologised, then posted from his hospital bed less than 24 hours before the hearing.
He asked fans to stop abusing the Newcastle hooker, sharing examples of comments that accused Crossland of acting deliberately and threatened to maim him.
"Please don't be one of those people writing comments like this to Phoenix," Cleary posted.
"It was a complete accident and he doesn't deserve the unwarranted hate. He reached out to apologise and I have nothing but respect for him.
"He's a competitor and the game is made up of split second moments that sometimes lead to unfortunate circumstances.
"Comments like this are so unfair. Spread love, not hate."
Crossland appeared close to tears as Cleary was stretchered from Accor Stadium on Sunday, then looked dejected in the dressing room after his dismissal.
Cleary's injury can be considered by the judiciary. Crossland is likely to miss Sunday's grand final against the Sydney Roosters, with the length of any suspension also affecting his World Cup availability.
The longest ban for a hip-drop tackle is five weeks, which would keep the New Zealand international out until the World Cup final if his team qualifies.
Knights coach Justin Holbrook said Crossland was disappointed after the match.
"He was disappointed, we've got to try and get him upbeat," Holbrook said.
"He's an emotional guy. He's been so great for us every week this year. Hopefully Nathan's OK."
