Christian Wade has made a significant switch in rugby codes, leaving the Wigan Warriors in rugby league to join the Newcastle Red Bulls in rugby union starting this December.
According to skysports.com, Wade's move back to 15-man rugby presents him with the opportunity to become the Premiership's leading try-scorer. At 34 years old, he is currently ranked second on the all-time list.
Wade has scored 93 tries during his previous spells with Wasps and Gloucester, which is just eight tries short of Chris Ashton's record of 101.
Wade stated on Newcastle's website, "I'm coming to get that record." He added, "Of course rugby is a team sport and the main thing for me is being a positive influence in helping the overall Newcastle side to perform, but I'm not going to pretend I don't want to be the all-time top try-scorer in the league's history."
Before joining Newcastle, Wade signed a short-term contract with Wigan until the end of 2025 after concluding his season with Gloucester in the Premiership.
