The future of the Manly Sea Eagles is looking bright as skipper Daly Cherry-Evans sings the praises of young gun Joey Walsh, who is being groomed as his successor in the coveted halfback position once Cherry-Evans decides to call it a day.

A talented cross-code athlete, Walsh was part of the CABE Junior Blues squad in 2022, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Jesse McLean, Blaize Talagi, Samuela Fainu, and Chevy Stewart after coming through the Sydney Roosters pathways system.

Having also captained the U18s Australian rugby union team and showcasing his skills alongside future NRL stars Mitchell Woods and Alex Conti at the U16 National Rugby Championship, Walsh is now making the transition to rugby league with the Sea Eagles, gearing up for his first NRL pre-season after signing a three-year deal with the club until 2027.

In an exclusive chat with Zero Tackle, Cherry-Evans mentioned that he had only crossed paths with Walsh once so far, but had nothing but positive things to say about the exciting addition to the club's Top 30 roster.

The passing of the torch from one leader to the next is a tradition that runs deep in the world of rugby league, and Cherry-Evans seems confident that Walsh is more than capable of carrying on the proud legacy of the Sea Eagles.
