Chelsea's recent decision to bring in former rugby league star Willie Isa to assist their players has been met with praise from his old coach.
Isa, who recently hung up his boots after a successful career with Super League team Wigan Warriors, has taken on the role of player support and development officer at Stamford Bridge.
The Samoan international, who helped Wigan secure four major trophies in 2024, made the move after 17 years in the rugby league world, playing for clubs like Penrith Panthers, Melbourne Storm, Castleford Tigers, and Widnes Vikings.
Despite signing a new deal with Wigan just last October, Isa chose to end his playing career in order to join Chelsea's backroom staff.
He's already working closely with the team's football operations and welfare departments, focusing on player coordination for training and match days.
Wigan coach Matt Peet spoke highly of Isa's impact, saying, "I don't expect fans to see the direct results of his work at Chelsea, but he's like a cultural architect.
He'll improve the environment and enhance the individuals within it."
In the world of sport, Isa's transition from the rugby league field to the Premier League sidelines showcases the universal skills and qualities that can benefit athletes across different disciplines.
