Having had a remarkable journey in rugby union, Michael Cheika, the former Wallabies coach, has secured a position with a prominent NRL team, aiming to eventually become a head coach in that code.
Since 2020, Cheika has served as the coach for the Lebanon national team and has an extensive background that includes leading Argentina, Australia, Leicester Tigers, NSW Waratahs, and Stade Français in rugby union.
Following his tenure with Leicester, he has officially joined the Sydney Roosters as a specialist coaching consultant and forwards coach under the guidance of head coach Trent Robinson.
"Michael and I have had a strong relationship for many years, and I've always admired the way he leads and challenges athletes," stated Roosters coach Trent Robinson. "His experience in rugby brings a different perspective that will inspire and test the players and coaches. To have someone of his calibre join the program is exciting, and I'm looking forward to getting started."
Before officially joining the Roosters, Cheika had consulted for Robinson and was rumored to be in contention for the head coaching positions at the Newcastle Knights and Parramatta Eels. However, those roles were assigned to Justin Holbrook and Jason Ryles, both of whom previously served as assistant coaches at the Roosters.
