Following the announcement of a significant potential rule change in the NRL, upheaval has surfaced within the rugby league community.
The proposed rule would require the team that scores to kick off, shifting away from the traditional method where the conceding side restarts play. This change, highlighted by the Sydney Morning Herald, is being considered one of the most substantial adjustments the NRL has encountered in the last five years.
One prominent critic of this proposed change is Phil Gould, General Manager of the Canterbury Bulldogs, who has expressed his discontent on X. He stated, "Whoever it was that regurgitated the concept of the scoring team kicking off in the NRL, should be publicly whipped." He further added, "Please... they tried this rubbish years ago and it was a disaster back then."
Gould's sentiments resonate with many fans who have also voiced their opposition to the idea across social media platforms.
As of now, the NRL has not officially commented on the proposed rule, but reports indicate that a committee plans to convene in the coming months to evaluate various new regulations.
