Six tries, two Tests: Casey proves Kiwis really can fly

In 1999, Cowboys player Brian Jellick made an unforgettable impact on Kiwis history when he scored four tries during his Test debut at Carlaw Park.

A skilled player from the Glenora Bears, Jellick gained recognition while playing for the Waitakere City Raiders in the Lion Red competitions between 1995 and 1996. He eventually joined the English second division team, Widnes, for the 1997 season.

After contributing to Glenora's victory in the Fox Memorial grand final in 1998 and representing New Zealand Māori on a tour of the Cook Islands, he landed a contract with North Queensland.

By Round 7 of 1999, he made his Cowboys debut, scoring a try in his first match against the Warriors. Later that same year, he donned the Kiwis jersey, achieving an impressive four-try performance in a 74-0 victory.

The following year, he added a fifth Test try to his record as New Zealand triumphed over Lebanon 64-0 in the World Cup. He also scored during the quarter-final against France, contributing to the Kiwis' commanding 54-6 win.

With three Tests and six tries, Jellick set an impressive mark.

Fast forward to November 10, 2024, when Panthers speedster Casey McLean made his Test debut against the Kumuls at CommBank Stadium.
