Brisbane and Queensland are facing uncertainty regarding the fitness of co-captain Pat Carrigan after he exited the field during Sunday's 30-26 loss to St George Illawarra.
Carrigan suffered a head clash with Dragons forward Jack de Belin, resulting in blood dripping from his mouth.
Following the incident, he appeared to be in significant discomfort and received treatment in the sheds, with initial concerns indicating a possible jaw injury.
Despite the apprehension, Broncos coach Michael Maguire downplayed the situation in his post-match comments, stating that Carrigan had "just a split in his mouth." However, it is expected that Carrigan will undergo precautionary scans to exclude any potential structural damage to his jaw.
The timing of this injury is particularly challenging for the Queensland team, as coach Billy Slater is slated to announce his State of Origin Game I squad on Monday.
