Kurt Capewell, the Queensland second rower, will not participate in the NZ Warriors' sold-out NRL match against the Penrith Panthers at Go Media Stadium, as reported by warriors.kiwi.
The 31-year-old veteran, with 170 games under his belt, is set to play in game two of the 2025 State of Origin series against New South Wales at Optus Stadium in Perth the following night.
Due to a long flight back to Auckland that arrives early Friday, head coach Andrew Webster has decided to exclude Capewell from the Warriors' first matchup against the Panthers in six years.
With Capewell unavailable and Rocco Berry still recovering from a hamstring injury, along with Ali Leiataua sidelined for five to six weeks with an ankle injury, the Warriors have to make additional changes in the centre position.
Rookie prop Tanner Stowers-Smith, who was recently re-signed until 2028, will appear on the interchange bench for his third NRL game.
This match also marks a significant milestone for both interchange utility Te Maire Martin and Niukore.
The kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
