Penrith coach Ivan Cleary is confident that the Panthers can retain their five-eighth, Jarome Luai, despite securing Dylan Edwards in a long-term contract.
Edwards, who has been a consistent performer for the Panthers, recently signed a four-year contract extension.
Speculation had suggested that Edwards might consider moving to another club for a lucrative deal, but the Panthers decided to reward him with a significant pay rise.
This puts Edwards on par with players like Ryan Papenhuyzen and Joey Manu.
While the deal is a major victory for the Panthers, it raises concerns about Luai's future, as his contract expires in 2024.
Having represented New South Wales in State of Origin and forming a formidable halves partnership with Nathan Cleary, Luai may also seek a boosted contract from rival clubs.
