NRL legend Cameron Smith throws his two cents into the ring regarding the controversial Taylan May and Reece Walsh incident that has the rugby league world in a tizzy.
The former Maroons player made his feelings known on the collision that left Walsh with a fractured eye socket and sidelined for up to six weeks after going head-to-head with a Panthers player.
Amidst the uproar, Smith, along with former Broncos player Matt Ballin, has criticized the NRL rule surrounding head clashes.
The clash has divided former players, with May avoiding punishment and Broncos coach Kevin Walters voicing concerns about player safety in the game.
Walters' fear that Walsh could become a target without a strong stance from the NRL on head-high collisions has sparked heated debates among rugby league legends such as Johnathan Thurston and Brad Fittler, who are at odds with Sharks legend Paul Gallen on the matter.
The absence of the young superstar Walsh will surely be felt by both the Broncos and the NRL as they miss out on the excitement he brings to the game.
In true Smith fashion, the rugby league icon defended May, believing the incident was merely an accident and did not warrant further scrutiny.
"I actually thought when the referee put Taylan May on report, I was against it to be honest.
I thought it was an accident," Smith stated on SEN Radio.
