The Brisbane Broncos have welcomed a significant new addition to their coaching staff: Cameron Smith.
Smith, who holds the record for the most games played in NRL history with 433 over an illustrious 18-year career, is reportedly engaging with the team's leadership group and mentoring younger players.
While the club has not officially commented on his role, head coach Michael Maguire stated in a report by News Corp that Smith, a former captain of the Melbourne Storm, Queensland Maroons, and Australian Kangaroos, has already made a positive impression at the club.
"He spent some time with us during the camp in Toowoomba and I could see the immediate impact he had on the players," Maguire noted. "It's great to have him around to help the leadership group and the younger players."
Despite his various media engagements, Smith is seen as a potential future head coach. He was previously considered a contender for the Australian coaching position ahead of the 2025 Ashes series in the UK, though that role was ultimately awarded to Kevin Walters.
Smith is expected to continue his involvement with Brisbane in the coming weeks and months after attending their recent training camp in Toowoomba. The Broncos, who are the current NRL champions, boast a relatively young roster.
