Cameron Smith Considered for Knights Coaching Staff

The future of the Newcastle Knights coaching position remains uncertain, with numerous candidates being considered to replace Adam O'Brien.

Among the potential contenders is current Knights assistant Blake Green. Should Green assume the head coach role, he may bring a notable figure from NRL history on board.

According to the Newcastle Herald, future Immortal and Melbourne Storm great Cameron Smith could join Green's staff if he secures the position.

Smith, who recently missed out on the Australia Kangaroos head coaching job, shares a close bond with Green and is likely to be brought in as an advisor to the prospective coach.

Reports suggest that if Smith joins the Knights' staff, his involvement would likely be limited to the preseason due to his obligations with Channel 9 and his current life on the Gold Coast.

This role would be similar to that of Knights legend Andrew Johns, who acted as an advisor to O'Brien in previous seasons.

Although Smith does not have any formal coaching experience, he is widely regarded as one of the most astute players in rugby league history - a quality that would surely appeal to Knights CEO Peter Parr.
