In a devastating blow for both his club and state, the Melbourne Storm and Queensland warrior Cameron Munster has been dealt a crushing blow with the news of his injury fate sealed in a monster State of Origin clash.
The Maroons have been hit hard with the news that Munster will be sidelined for this year's State of Origin series, a blow that will test their depth and resilience.
However, there is a silver lining on the horizon for the Storm, as the superstar five-eighth is expected to make a triumphant return from his groin injury just in time for the finals.
Munster's injury woes began at the start of the season, forcing him to the sidelines for the first few rounds.
Despite a valiant return in round five, the nagging groin issue flared up once again during a clash with the Eels at Magic Round, leaving the talented playmaker writhing in pain and eventually being subbed out before half-time.
The 29-year-old will now face a grueling 8-10 week recovery period, with no surgery required at this stage.
It's a race against time for Munster to push through the pain and return to the field, with a potential comeback on the cards as early as round 20 against the Roosters at AAMI Park.
"Cameron had scans earlier today which revealed a tear in the adductor tendon," explained Storm director of football Frank Ponissi.
"We have decided to take a conservative approach to his treatment and rehabilitation, avoiding the need for surgery at this time."
As Munster sets his sights on a triumphant return, both his club and state will be eagerly anticipating his comeback, hoping that he can once again lead them to victory with his skill, tenacity, and never-say-die attitude on the field.
