In a blow to the Gold Coast Titans, veteran playmaker Kieran Foran will be sidelined for their trial match against the Parramatta Eels due to a minor calf injury.
The experienced 33-year-old, who has an impressive NRL career spanning 16 seasons and 282 games, has decided to err on the side of caution and rest his tight calf muscles ahead of the upcoming season opener on March 9.
Assistant coach Jim Lenihan has revealed that Foran is not a concern for Round 1, but the club is taking a conservative approach to ensure his full fitness.
In Foran's absence, young half Tom Weaver will step up and partner Tanah Boyd in the halves, hoping to build on their formidable combination from 2023.
Additionally, the Titans have called up talented playmaker Kyle Foxwell, who showcased his skills in the previous game against the Dolphins, to the extended bench.
While it's disappointing to see Foran missing out on the trial match, the Titans are making the necessary adjustments to ensure their team remains fully prepared for the upcoming season.
