Strong culture at the core of belief for new Jillaroo Butler

Rima Butler has quickly established herself in her international rugby career. After just two games, she is confident not only in her role within the Jillaroos but also in her ability to be herself.

Hailing from Minto, New South Wales, and born to New Zealand parents, Butler made her debut during the Pacific Championships victory against Samoa. She followed this with a strong performance in a challenging 10-4 win over the Kiwi Ferns at Auckland's Eden Park, humorously noting her uncertainty about which colors her family would wear in the stands.

Butler, who clinched a premier title with the Newcastle Knights in 2023, also had an impressive 2025 season. She played a pivotal role in helping the Sydney Roosters secure the minor premiership and was included in the extended training squad for the New South Wales Blues State of Origin under coach John Strange.

Reflecting on her choice to represent Australia internationally, Butler, who also plays for the Māori All Stars and represents her Te Rarawa iwi, expressed how the Jillaroos' embrace of their players' diverse backgrounds is a true reflection of multicultural Australia. This inclusiveness has been a source of inspiration for her.
