Burton Cleared: Burton Cleared; Thompson Eyes Squad

Burton cleared for Vegas but Bulldogs sweat on Thompson

Burton cleared for Vegas but Bulldogs sweat on Thompson.

Bulldogs five-eighth Matt Burton has been given the green light to travel to Las Vegas for the opening match after scans showed no hamstring tear.

Prop Leo Thompson, however, faces a nervy wait as he undergoes calf scans on Tuesday to determine whether he will join the travelling squad.

Canterbury head of football Phil Gould announced on social media that Burton would be available to play at Allegiant Stadium against St George Illawarra on Sunday week, provided he is fully fit.

The club still holds the option to take a cautious approach with their No.6 because the Bulldogs have a bye in round two.

Sean O'Sullivan, who could slot in for Burton, said he was ready to partner Lachie Galvin in the halves.

O'Sullivan added he was backing Burton to be 100 per cent.

Burton was helped from the field immediately during Saturday night's trial with Newcastle after feeling discomfort in his left hamstring while playing the ball.

After he went to the sideline he was required to make a tackle on Knights winger Dominic Young before heading straight up the tunnel.

Medical staff will monitor both players closely in the coming days as final selections for the trip are finalised.
