Sharks forward Billy Burns has expressed that his journey through the fluctuating landscape of rugby league has equipped him for his post-season debut on Saturday night.

A seasoned player with experience at the Panthers and Dragons before joining Cronulla last year, Burns is preparing for his first finals appearance, six years after making his NRL debut in Round 24, 2019.

Throughout this time, Burns has faced the highs and lows of rugby league, battling injuries and limited playing time in the top tier. However, he also celebrated significant achievements, including a reserve grade premiership with Newtown last year.

The experiences with the Jets have instilled confidence in the 26-year-old as he heads into Saturday night's elimination final against the Roosters at Sharks Stadium.

Cronulla provided Burns a fresh start before last season, although opportunities in the top tier remained scarce throughout 2024. Instead, he led the Newtown Jets to a NSW Cup premiership, and after a shoulder injury sidelined Teig Wilton, Burns received an NRL call-up in Round 8.

Seizing the opportunity, he established himself as a key player this year. His efforts have not gone unnoticed, with captain Blayke Brailey commending Burns for enhancing the team's spirit.
