Fire Burns bright as journeyman prepares for finals debut
Sharks forward Billy Burns believes that his journey through the ups and downs of rugby league has equipped him for his upcoming post-season debut on Saturday night.
A seasoned player with experience at the Panthers and Dragons before joining Cronulla last year, Burns is gearing up for his first finals game, six years after his NRL debut in Round 24, 2019.
Over the years, Burns has faced the highs and lows of rugby league, dealing with multiple injuries and limited playing time in the top tier. However, he has also enjoyed significant moments, including celebrating a reserve-grade premiership with Newtown last year.
This experience with the Jets is bolstering the 26-year-old's confidence as he approaches Saturday night's elimination final against the Roosters at Sharks Stadium.
Cronulla offered Burns a chance prior to last season, but his opportunities in the top flight were still scarce throughout 2024. Nonetheless, he played a pivotal role in leading the Newtown Jets to a NSW Cup premiership, which set the stage for his NRL call-up in Round 8 following a shoulder injury to Teig Wilton.
