Bunker blues dampen Gold Coast's stormy hopes

Hasler fumes over costly Bunker call

Titans coach Des Hasler has expressed his frustration over a contentious Bunker ruling that led to a pivotal 12-point swing in the match against the Storm.

He insisted, "it was the wrong decision" based on information received from the NRL.

The Storm secured a 28-16 victory at the Gold Coast under challenging conditions, a result that might have been different had the Bunker not denied the Titans a critical try.

With 16 minutes left in the game, the Titans were trailing 22-10 when hooker Sam Verrills attempted to score after a lengthy wait at the ruck.

Initially ruled a six-again and a try on the field, the decision was overturned by Kasey Badger in the Bunker.

She judged that Verrills had unlawfully burrowed under Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, who impeded Ryan Papenhuyzen's tackle attempt.

Although the Titans were awarded a penalty, the situation worsened as Grant Anderson intercepted a pass soon after, extending the Storm's lead.

Hasler's comments have amplified the debate around Bunker decisions, as he lamented the outcome and its implications for his team.

The incident has raised questions about the consistency and clarity of officiating in high-stakes matches, particularly concerning the interpretation of plays at the ruck.
