Canterbury Bulldogs, a well-known Rugby League club, has taken steps to bring back its famed DNA by appointing club legends to coaching roles in 2024.
Former Bulldogs captain Josh Jackson will lead the Jersey Flegg team, while Steve Turner will be in charge of the SG Ball team.
The decision aligns with the club's policy of "Bulldogs coaching young Bulldogs," as stated by Phil Gould, the general manager of football.
Jackson, who played an impressive 241 games for the club, played a significant role in Canterbury's Jersey Flegg premiership this year and will assume the full-time coaching position next season.
Similarly, Turner, who was compelled to retire due to medical reasons in 2013, has been involved with the Bulldogs for the past decade in an administrative capacity and has also served as one of the club's trainers.
Gould expressed his admiration for the professionalism and work ethic exhibited by both men in the Bulldogs' development pathways, stating that it is exceptional and unparalleled.
He also expressed his enthusiasm for the fact that Bulldogs are coaching Bulldogs, emphasizing the importance of instilling the club's values and identity in the young players.
By appointing former players who have a deep understanding of the Bulldogs' culture and history, the club aims to impart this knowledge to the next generation, ensuring that they fully comprehend what it means to be a Bulldog.
This move not only helps maintain the club's legacy but also creates a nurturing environment for the young players to grow and excel in their rugby careers.
With the guidance of these esteemed club legends, the future looks promising for the Canterbury Bulldogs.
