Dragonslayers to Demolition Jobs: The Best Bulldogs Victories Over the Red V

Since Canterbury-Bankstown's inception into the competition in 1935, the Dragons - whether St George or St George Illawarra - have always brought an air of excitement, intensity, and drama to the game.

Ahead of the Round 1 blockbuster to kick-off the 2025 season, let's take a look back at some of the Bulldogs' most memorable victories against the Red V.

In just their eighth season in the top-grade, Canterbury-Bankstown clinched their second Premiership title in a nail-biting match, edging out St George 11-9 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Described as 'gripping football' by journalist Claude Corbett, the crowd of 27,071 witnessed Canterbury ultimately seize the win after the teams were deadlocked at 7-all at halftime.

Fullback Lin Johnson played a crucial role in the triumph, slotting four goals and accounting for all but three of the team's points, while winger Bob Jackson scored the lone try.

When the final whistle blew, the 'Country Bumpkins' emerged victorious, with Captain Ron Bailey being hoisted through the crowd by his teammates after securing the Club's second Premiership in five years.
