The Canterbury Bulldogs are set to bolster their backline by signing a player from a well-known rugby lineage, as they prepare for the 2026 season.

During the recent State Championship match between the Burleigh Bears and the New Zealand Warriors, Bulldogs CEO Phil Gould, who is also a commentator for Channel 9, announced that Nick O'Meley, the standout fullback, will be joining the Bulldogs in 2026.

Nick O'Meley, the son of the Bulldogs icon and 2004 premiership champion Mark O'Meley, aims to secure a full-time contract with the club after signing a "train-and-trial" deal, as reported by the Daily Telegraph.

Throughout 2025, O'Meley displayed significant talent while playing for the Bears, amassing seven tries in just eight matches and contributing to the team's victory in the QLD Hostplus Cup Grand Final.

As he joins the Bulldogs, O'Meley will seek to outpace competitors like Connor Tracey, Kade Dykes, and Raymond Puru, with the ultimate goal of earning a call-up to the NRL.
