The Canterbury Bulldogs have announced a long-term contract extension for their standout second-rower, Jacob Preston, effectively removing one of the league's top forwards from the upcoming free agency market.
This year, Preston has engaged in discussions with the Bulldogs, which hit a standstill at one point.
There were concerns he might enter the November 1 deadline without a new agreement, as significant discrepancies were reported regarding his valuation between the player and the club.
However, those differences have been settled, and despite the Bulldogs' tight salary cap situation, Preston has signed a new deal lasting until the conclusion of the 2031 season, reportedly for a considerable salary increase.
"I'm so happy to have locked in my long-term future at the Club," Preston said in the announcement regarding his contract.
"The Bulldogs are home to me and I've built lifelong friendships here.
"I know the Club is building something special and I'm stoked that I get to continue being a part of that journey."
Having joined the club before making his debut from the Sydney Roosters, the Bulldog has played 78 NRL games and is anticipated to be included in the Australian Kangaroos squad for the World Cup later this year.
He has been part of the extended Kangaroos and NSW Blues squads this past year and could have made his Origin debut had injury not disrupted his progress at a critical moment.
