Bulldogs Off to Solid Yet Cautious Start

The Canterbury Bulldogs have kicked off the 2026 NRL season in impressive fashion, at least on paper.

While the point margins aren't significant, early in the season, amassing two competition points is what truly matters, rather than the manner of achieving them.

For this reason, the Bulldogs warrant applause and a stamp of approval, echoing the sentiment that "everything is going to plan."

And in terms of results, they indeed are doing just that.

However, the games themselves present a more nuanced narrative, raising the question: "should they have scored more points?"

Several factors could justify the narrow margins they've encountered thus far.

Round 1 took place in Las Vegas, presenting a narrower playing field, while the Dragons defended as though their livelihoods were at stake, a trend they continued into Round 2 against the Storm.

Additionally, travel logistics may have impacted the blue and white's performance.

These elements certainly complicate the task of scoring, embracing a free-flowing style, and maintaining a lead.

There are, therefore, valid excuses, compounded by the fact that these are merely the season's opening contests, which were separated by a lengthy break around the bye, potentially hindering fluidity.
