Matty Johns, a former NRL premiership winner, has addressed concerns about Lachie Galvin's position in the Bulldogs as the team prepares for significant player changes.

Galvin is transferring to the Bulldogs from Wests Tigers after being granted an immediate release, with the Bulldogs reportedly paying a $165,000 transfer fee.

He has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal estimated at $750,000 per season, keeping him at Canterbury until at least the end of the 2028 season.

This major acquisition appears to be impactful, as it may lead to the departures of established players Toby Sexton and Reed Mahoney.

Sexton, whose contract runs out in 2025, is expected to leave after this season, especially since Bulldogs GM Phil Gould has not promised him a future at the club.

Mahoney, the Bulldogs' hooker, has also been informed he can negotiate with rival teams, as the club sees Bailey Hayward as their future No.9 and will not be extending Mahoney's contract.

The Bulldogs have permitted Mahoney's management to initiate talks with other clubs but want to stay updated on any negotiations.

Journalist Phil Rothfield raised concerns that Galvin's signing, along with the anticipated exits of Mahoney and Sexton, could destabilize the Bulldogs, who are currently leading the competition.

While it's unlikely Galvin will immediately join the starting lineup, a utility role off the bench is more plausible until he acclimates.

Reports have also indicated that Sexton might be dropped to reserve grade following some underwhelming performances, including a recent loss to the Dolphins.

Overall, while securing Galvin is a significant move for Canterbury, the consequences for the current squad could be substantial, particularly regarding team dynamics and performance going forward.
