Excess baggage: Why the Bulldogs will pay for two extra players to travel to Vegas

Canterbury is set to spend approximately $15,000 to fly two additional players to Las Vegas for the NRL season opener next month, as part of their preparations for the match and their opposed training sessions due to recent changes in the interchange rule.

This week, the NRL announced that teams could name six players on the bench while still only fielding four during games.

In response, the Bulldogs decided to cover the costs for two extra players, increasing their travel squad from 22 to 24 participants.

According to the Vegas agreement, which involves this year's four participating clubs-the Bulldogs, St George Illawarra, Newcastle, and North Queensland-the NRL will cover the flights and accommodations for 22 players. However, clubs are responsible for the expenses of any additional squad members.
