NRL Snakes and Ladders: Bulldogs tread on a big snake, Broncos climb the ladder

A new format for the 2025 NRL season will be introduced, where teams will be adjusted in a "Snakes and Ladders" style based on their performances each week.

Instead of a conventional ranking, this method will give an alternative perspective on team performance starting with last season's final standings:

  1. Storm
  2. Panthers
  3. Roosters
  4. Sharks
  5. Cowboys
  6. Bulldogs
  7. Sea Eagles
  8. Knights
  9. Raiders
  10. Dolphins
  11. Dragons
  12. Broncos
  13. Warriors
  14. Titans
  15. Eels
  16. Rabbitohs
  17. Tigers

In a recent matchup, the Raiders triumphed over the Dragons 28-24.

Scoring kicked off with a 19th-minute try from Raiders winger Xavier Savage, followed by a Dragons equalizer 13 minutes later.

However, Kaeo Weekes then took control, showcasing a performance reminiscent of Brett Mullins' prime.

Weekes scored three tries, putting the game out of reach for the Dragons despite them scoring three late tries to tighten the contest.

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart was likely displeased with the late-game resurgence from the Dragons.

Meanwhile, the Storm defeated the Cowboys 26-20 in Townsville, despite missing their Origin players.

Jahrome Hughes, a standout halfback not called up for Origin, was pivotal in the Storm's success, supported by Nelson Asofa-Solomona's strong performance in the forward pack.

A notable shift saw Nick Meaney stepping up as fullback following Ryan Papenhuyzen's withdrawal, allowing him to score two crucial tries.

The Cowboys, initially tied 12-12 at halftime, managed to go ahead 18-12 through a Scott Drinkwater try, but Meaney's late double sealed the game for Melbourne.

This new format aims to provide insights into team dynamics and may create a unique narrative throughout the 2025 season.
