The Brisbane Broncos are currently evaluating their halves combination ahead of the preliminary final against Penrith, with coach Michael Maguire under pressure to make the right call on Ezra Mam. Ben Hunt has emerged as a crucial player for the team.

Ezra Mam participated in training, filling the five-eighth role towards the end of a session while also shifting between positions during team drills. His potential return from a hamstring injury on Sunday at Lang Park is being closely watched.

Captain Adam Reynolds is expected to take his spot back at halfback after recovering from his own hamstring injury, while Hunt, who excels in both the six and nine positions, concentrated on his role in the halves during practice.

Training sessions showcased a flexible approach to the halves, with Maguire experimenting by rotating all three of his playmakers. Cory Paix initially played hooker during the opposed session until he was sidelined due to a back injury, prompting Hunt to step in.

This situation has created a variety of possible combinations for the Broncos. Mam could serve as a valuable impact player off the bench when the intensity of the game subsides.

Encouragingly, Mam appeared to be moving well during training, leaving fans hopeful for his return.
