Broncos to Rescue 2026 World Club Challenge

The Brisbane Broncos have reportedly agreed to save the 2026 World Club Challenge by travelling to England to face Hull KR.

The event appeared to be in jeopardy for another consecutive year, especially with Hull KR kicking off their Super League season in Las Vegas. This scheduling conflict prevented them from making the journey to Australia, while sources indicated the Broncos were initially reluctant to travel to England during pre-season.

Considering the 2026 season is already expected to be lengthy-culminating in the Rugby League World Cup-key Broncos players such as Patrick Carrigan, Reece Walsh, Kotoni Staggs, and Gehamat Shibasaki have already undertaken an extensive off-season. Currently, they are participating in an international tour with the Kangaroos, competing for the Ashes against England.

Despite these factors, the Broncos have decided to proceed with the trip. Multiple reports suggest that the game will take place at Hull FC's larger home ground in February, prior to both teams officially commencing their respective seasons.

After the match, Hull KR will head to Las Vegas, while the Broncos will return to Australia to finalize their preparations for the 2026 NRL season.

The World Club Challenge was nearly facing cancellation again, especially after the Penrith Panthers did not compete in 2025 before their own Las Vegas trip.
