Brisbane's towering prop, Ben Te Kura, has been granted a leave of absence from NRL training to attend an NFL training camp for six weeks.
Standing at an impressive 205cm, Te Kura has shown interest in American Football, inspired by ex-South Sydney player Jordan Mailata, who rose to fame in the NRL and won the Super Bowl with Philadelphia last year.
At just 22, Te Kura has faced challenges in securing regular playtime with the Broncos, logging only five appearances since his debut in 2023, largely due to the strong forward lineup and injury setbacks.
On Sunday, the Broncos made an announcement expressing their support for Te Kura as he pursues his NFL aspirations.
"The Broncos have approved Te Kura's attendance at a six-week NFL training camp, which is currently underway," said the club.
"At the conclusion of the six-week period, Te Kura will either return to Broncos' training or the club will extend his absence to facilitate further steps towards a possible NFL opportunity in the United States."
Mailata's NFL journey began in 2017 when he was accepted into the international pathway program (IPP).
Additionally, Valentine Holmes from St George Illawarra went through the IPP in 2019, earning a spot with the New York Jets, before returning to the NRL with North Queensland the next season.
