The Brisbane Broncos are taking a significant step in mental health awareness with the introduction of a new Mental Health jersey, marking an Australian sporting first.
This initiative, announced by the Club on Tuesday, involves the NRL squad wearing a completely black jersey during a dedicated Mental Health Round on June 7, when they face the Titans at Suncorp Stadium.
This initiative has been a year in the making and features a distinctive black jersey, shorts, and socks.
Key players involved in the launch include Jesse Arthars, Kotoni Staggs, Corey Jensen, along with NRLW player Gayle Broughton and legendary NRL player Sam Thaiday.
The jersey's unveiling is accompanied by a series of impactful images, narrated content, and interviews aimed at promoting mental health discussions.
The Broncos intend to leverage their influential brand-recognized as the biggest in Australian sport-to spark conversation and drive change regarding mental health issues.
This initiative coincides with the broader sporting community rallying behind the Selwood family of the AFL after the tragic passing of premiership winner Adam Selwood.
The design of the jersey is a collaboration between the Broncos' Charity Partner, the Black Dog Institute, and apparel partner ASICS.
Notably, all major sponsors have chosen to obscure their logos on the jersey, applying them in a gel form that only becomes visible under specific lighting conditions.
This unique approach reinforces the jersey's theme and commitment to focusing on mental health.
