The Wests Tigers suffered a tough 28-16 loss to the Broncos in their NRLW trial match on Saturday evening at Suncorp Stadium.
It was a real dogfight of a game, with both teams eager to make their mark in the league.
The Broncos managed to touch down seven times, while the Tigers put up a valiant fight with four tries of their own (no conversions were attempted, keeping things interesting).
The match was split into 25-minute thirds, giving both teams plenty of chances to flex their muscles on the field.
The Tigers got off to a flying start with a try from winger Tess Staines after 12 minutes, but Brisbane quickly hit back with three unanswered tries to take the lead at the end of the first third.
The Tigers clawed their way back into the game with a powerful try from front-rower Sarah Togatuki in the 28th minute, followed by a superb effort from centre Rikeya Horne to level the score at 12-12 with just over half an hour played.
However, the Broncos weren't about to let their home advantage slip away, striking back with a try from Ali Brigginshaw in the 45th minute to extend their lead.
It was a hard-fought battle from start to finish, with both teams leaving everything on the field.
While the Tigers may have come up short this time, they showed plenty of heart and determination in the face of a tough opponent.
With the season now officially underway, it's clear that the competition is heating up - and the Tigers will be looking to bounce back stronger than ever in the games to come.
