Broncos' showdown: A tackle too far for legends

Broncos legend rips Payne Haas and Patrick Carrigan over on-field act: 'Don't want to see that'

Brisbane Broncos legend Corey Parker has urged teammates Payne Haas and Patrick Carrigan to reduce their high number of carries to help improve the team's struggling attack.

Both players are known for their work ethic, often logging over 15 carries per game.

In a recent match against the Rabbitohs, Carrigan had 20 runs for 176 meters, while Haas recorded 13 for 153 meters.

Despite their impressive performances-including Haas breaking four tackles and making a significant line break-the Broncos lost 22-14.

Parker suggested that the team would benefit from diversifying their approach by utilizing Haas and Carrigan in decoy runs instead of solely relying on them for hit-ups.

This could introduce unpredictability against opposition defenses.

Notably, all of Haas' 13 runs were directly aimed at advancing the ball, and Carrigan only passed three times after engaging the defensive line, indicating a predictable attack.

"Patty and Payne are so good at what they do, but I want to see them making fewer hit-ups and running some decoys," Parker stated.

He acknowledged their skill and value, adding, "There's no doubt they are great players.

Any team would want Payne Haas and Pat Carrigan.

But I don't want to see them doing 20 hit-ups each every game, every week." He emphasized the need for variety in the Broncos' pack, proposing that if opposition defenses had to face Haas running a decoy, it would create uncertainty and improve their offensive strategy.

Overall, Parker's comments highlight the importance of tactical diversity in the Broncos' game plan to enhance their performance moving forward.
