Broncos rookie Reegan Hicks is facing a potential two-week suspension following a grade 2 dangerous throw charge from the match review committee for a lifting tackle that occurred during her debut.
The incident, which took place just six minutes into the game against the Titans, warranted a send-off, as Hicks lifted Sienna Lofipo into a perilous position.
Thankfully, Lofipo avoided serious injury.
Coach Scott Prince commented on the situation, stating, "It's part of footy and it's just an accident." He expressed empathy for Hicks, noting that if she contests the charge and loses, she could face an additional week on the sidelines.
Prince continued, "It's a tackle that's gone wrong and I know that she's really upset and really remorseful for what she did.
You hate to see it in the game, but it's a straight-up accident.
She's really upset in the sheds.
She's an 18-year-old who's just trying to do her best for her football team."
This incident raises concerns about player safety and the responsibility that comes with tackling in rugby, as it highlights the fine line between competitive play and player care.
