Corey Jensen, a prop for the Brisbane Broncos, is reportedly nearing a medical retirement due to serious blood clot complications in his lungs.
His last appearance in the NRL came during Round 7, where the Broncos triumphed over the Wests Tigers, but Jensen experienced severe health issues right after the match, culminating in a pulmonary embolism.
After months of consultations with specialists and Bronco's medical team, the Courier Mail has confirmed that Jensen will officially retire based on medical advice.
The 32-year-old was an integral part of the team's recent championship win, marking a historic end to the club's title drought, and had been optimistic about returning to play.
He underwent a series of tests and was put on blood-thinning medication in hopes of mapping out a possible return to the game.
However, Jensen has ultimately decided to retire after a commendable nine-year career in professional rugby.
Just a fortnight ago, Coach Michael Maguire expressed his wish for Jensen to return to the sport.
"I really hope he plays again," he shared with the media.
"This has been a really unusual situation; I don't think I've ever heard of a player having blood clots."
