The Brisbane Broncos have made a significant move by signing one of their most promising young talents, outside back Antonio Verhoeven, to a multi-year contract.
This three-year deal ensures his presence at Red Hill until 2029.
Verhoeven's journey to this point is quite remarkable.
It all started on a tournament pitch back in 2024, where he showcased his skills while playing for his school in the Condor Sevens, completely oblivious to the fact that Broncos scouts were already taking note of his potential.
Afterward, he took a bold step by relocating to Australia, completing his year 12 studies at Palm Beach Currumbin, with a clear goal of integrating into the Broncos Academy.
The rewards for his dedication came swiftly: in 2025, he played a pivotal role in the Burleigh Bears' victorious Mal Meninga Cup against the Redcliffe Dolphins, attracting widespread attention due to his outstanding performances that season.
His skills earned him a spot on the Australian Schoolboys team, allowing him to compete internationally in Papua New Guinea against the Junior Kumuls.
This year has been monumental; after participating in the NRL pre-season training, Verhoeven made his mark in Hostplus Cup football with the Wynnum-Manly Seagulls.
In just three matches, his statistics are impressive: four tries, 14 tackle breaks, five line breaks, and an average of nearly 110 run metres a game.
Earlier this year, Verhoeven's name surfaced in discussions about a potential swap involving veteran Mitchell Barnett, underscoring his rising profile within the club.
