Broncos hooker moves on, new team awaits

The Brisbane Broncos are in the midst of a transformation under the leadership of Michael Maguire.

One of their skilled hookers, Tyson Smoothy, is gearing up to make a departure at the conclusion of the 2025 NRL season.

Having been a part of the Broncos' lineup during their 2023 Grand Final clash against the Penrith Panthers, Smoothy's time in the orange jersey is drawing to a close.

After three seasons with the club, the 25-year-old is ready to bid adieu to Red Hill as his contract nears its end.

Smoothy's decision to move on comes as Maguire steps in as head coach, succeeding Kevin Walters.

According to reports from The Courier-Mail, Smoothy has set his sights on a new challenge overseas with Wakefield Trinity in the competitive Super League.

Despite the Broncos offering him a reduced deal to stay on, Smoothy has opted to pursue this exciting opportunity abroad.

With a three-year contract secured with Wakefield from 2026 to 2028, Smoothy is poised to make his mark on the international rugby league scene.
